Problems are part and parcel of everyone’s life. There is not a single person who can say that they do not face problems in most of the situations of their lives. Since living life and occurrence of problems go hand in hand, instead of complaining, you should learn the skills to solve them. In our childhood, we are taught so many things in school by our teachers or at home by our parents. But the most important things of how to face problems with positive attitude and how to solve them are never taught. Since we have the least knowledge to face and solve them, we get terrified when we face them and eventually, give in completely.
All those people who made it big in life overcame their problems just like another task to complete. There are 4 specific steps to solve problems arising from anything and everything.
Identification – The first step is to identify that you have a problem. Then you have to recognize the source of the problem and form a clear idea about all the aspects of the problem.
Observation – To solve a problem, you need to know it completely. You cannot solve a problem on the go. Therefore, observe the problem, understand its nature, record the facts and form a complete idea about the factors that need to be altered to solve the problem.
Solutions and Decision – A problem can have multiple approaches to solve it. So, you need to list down the multiple solutions and decide the best route to take. There is no point in taking a long route as it is just an obstacle you need to get rid of.
Implementation – The most important step is the implementation of the steps for the solution. Sometimes, your judgment call may not be right, and hence, you need to improvise a little according to the situation.
Since problems in life are not going away anytime soon, you need to enhance your skills to face problems like a pro. Here are the 5 proven ways to improve your problem-solving skills.
In this method, you need to identify the root cause of the problem. A root cause does not affect the outcome but prevents the outcome from happening. For example, if it is found that a machine has stopped working. After a casual inspection, it is found that the lubricant is not spreading out sufficiently because the pump is damaged. On further inspection, it is found that a metal scrape in the machine has damaged the pump. So the root cause is the metal scape not the damage of the pump.
In this method, you consider a general problem and break it down into multiple parts and then approach it specifically in small scale to identify different factors causing the problem. It is a very popular, systematic and efficient approach. It is more like divide and conquer method.
This method is applicable when the factors causing the problem are too complex to quantize. It works in reverse ways where a person has to approach a problem from its output to its internal factors.
When a problem is too tough to solve, you try to research other problems that are similar to it. Then you try to reduce your problem and transform it into that problem whose solution exists.
It is a method, you form multiple solutions to a problem, critically analysis every solution and finally combine the selected ones to form an optimal and improved solution. It is best while solving a problem in a group.
Accept the fact that problem is a necessary evil, enhance your problem-solving skills to find a better solution and scale new heights in life.
