Job searching today can be very stressful. Writing a cover letter or resume is certainly a daunting task. Knowing that out of 250 resumes a typical job posting receives, only 2% will get called in for an interview can make a job search feel close to impossible.
However, there is light at the end of the tunnel in 2017. With hiring volume expected to increase by over 50%, now is the time to get to work finding a job. With almost 10 million jobs being created by 2024, the opportunity is coming and both job seekers and hiring managers have their work cut out for them. Even though some older positions are going the way of outsourcing and automations, new positions are still popping up. In fact, more than 60% of new job openings in 2017 are created because of new positions. If you have a unique skill or talent, now is the time to get out there.
So what can you do to stay on top of the job landscape? Background check company, EBI, has put together a list of 60 hiring statistics that should help shed light on some key trends.
For job seekers, only 15% of hires are make from job board candidates, and yet 42% of job seekers still use job boards. Employee referrals actually make up about 50% of the quality hires.
For hiring managers, we are in a time of transition for gender and diversity issues. Almost 70% of job seekers said that diversity in the workplace is important when considering an offer. The breakdown of employed people is still heavily skewed towards the White population, making up almost 70% of employed. Only 4.2% of CEO positions of Fortune 500 companies are women. While these biases exist, they shouldn’t stop you. Now is the time to break the trends and help your new career or company thrive.
